Site location

The study site is located on Bylot Island, in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago (Nunavut). The ice wedge polygons are found in the Qarlikturvik valley, on the south bank of the river draining melt water from the C-79 and C-93 glaciers, near the CEN station.

Site description

The ponds are located on a 3–5 m thick terrace resulting from the aggradation of Holocene deposits composed of peat mixed with aeolian sands and silts (syngenetic permafrost).
