Natural environement site. The site is located on a permafrost mound in the Vallee-des-Trois near Umiujaq, Nunavik, in the discontinuous zone.

Site description

   
Subsite: Umiujaq_VDT_01_02_03 / Surficial geology: Marine sandy-silt and silty-sand in the first 30 cm. Lower down the ratio of clay sediments increase. / Vegetation: The vegetation covering surface is representative of the subarctic ecosystem including a high ratio of lichen, evergreen shrubs, deciduous shrubs. It is part of the tundra. The caracteristics of the site is that is located on the top of the permafrost mound and that the soil humidity is pretty low. The permafrost depth is around 1,25m. Subsite: Umiujaq_VDT_04_05_06 / Surficial geology: Marine Sandy, silty-sand, and sandy-silt at surface. Lower down the ratio of clay sediments increase. / Vegetation: The vegetation covering surface is representative of the subarctic ecosystem including a high ratio of lichen, evergreen shrubs, deciduous shrubs and black spruces. It's part of the shrub tundra. The site is located in a more humid part of the mound at a lower altitude where the soil humidity is higher.
