Anthropogenic site. The city of Iqaluit is located southeast of Baffin Island in a valley open on Frobisher Bay, an inlet reaching out to the Hudson strait and the Arctic Ocean.

The Iqaluit International airport is located west of the village, near the Sylvia Grinnell territorial park. The airport paved infrastructures consist of a 3km long airstrip (the longest in Nunavut territory), taxiways (A, B, C, D and E; F and G are under construction.) and aprons (I, II and III) (Mathon-Dufour et Allard, 2015).
